Analysis of export-import activities of Ukraine’s confectionery industry
Abstract
Introduction. Ukrainian market of confectionery has completed stages of its formation and is in a tough competitive counteraction. Maintenance and encourage of new customers become possible only in case of introduction of new products, advertising and marketing policies, search of new sales markets, mainly through exports.
Purpose is to analyze the export and import policy of confectionery industry of Ukraine and to establish general trends, dynamics and impact factors and prospects.
Method (methodology). Confectionery industry of Ukraine is export-oriented and since 2010 to 2012 supplies to foreign markets about 43-44% of domestic products. In 2012, export of confectionery industry of Ukraine has been equal to 438.9 thousand tones that is only 1% more than in 2011. Comparing Ukrainian exports to 2006, it is possible to conclude that the rapid growth of production and extension of the domestic exporters as the export has increased more than 1.5 times. In 2012 the industry exported the goods that worth $ 1.1 billion, representing about 15% of total food exports from Ukraine. Considering the statistics imports of Ukraine, we can conclude the opposite trend: the volume of imported confectionery is constantly decreasing. Imports of confectionery in Ukraine during 2012 has decreased by 2% in value terms. It has been established that the structure of imports and exports of confectionery products stays stable during the last 10 years, which is a guarantee of confidence and further development.
Results.The level of Ukrainian exports of all kinds of confectionery products for the last 10 years is higher than imports. During the analyzed period of 2006-2012, the growth of exports is 164%, while imports - only 106%. Thus every year gap parameter becomes larger. It indicates the satisfaction of domestic demand of Ukraine by the variety of confectionery products, and its compliance with international standards.
