Analysis of theoretical aspects of insurance investment

Abstract

Introdution. The modern terms of development of economy substantially influence the results of activity of  home insurance organizations and force to search for the additional sources of income. Investment activity comes forward as that important constituent that allows to get additional profits for successful realization of basic activity of insurer. We can affirm that investment activity for home insurers is very important, and borrowing of experience of successful foreign insurers is actual considering the European integration strategy of Ukraine.

Purpose. The purpose of the article is the investigation of theoretical information of both investment activity on the whole and insurance organizations in particular. In the process of study of these problems it has been found out insufficiency of information about them both in the works of domestic and foreign researchers.

Method (methodology). The analytical methods have been used in the article. Due to them we investigated the theoretical base of the concept «investment activity» and its features.

Results. The points of view of the leading Ukrainian and foreign researchers are systematized  in relation to a concept «investment activity». The national legislation is analyzed in the field of investing. The subject and object of investment activity according to normative legal acts are singled out. The peculiarities of realization of investments by insurance companies are also investigated. Opinions of scientists in relation to importance of insurance and investment activity are delimite and analyzed. The main sources of insurance investment activity are analysed. Basic instruments of investing for insurance companies which have been outlined in domestic legislation are described. The basic tasks of investment activity of insurance companies are defined. It has been made a conclusion about diversity of opinion of leading scientists and economists in relation to an investment as basic or second activity in the process of functioning of insurer. The primary purpose of insurance investment activity is also determined. The author’s definition of the concept «investment activity of insurance companies» is offered.
