Analysis of the economic and innovative development of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership

Abstract


The specifics of the current stage of globalization of the world economy determines the increase in the rate of internationalization, including innovation sphere, the intensification of international cooperation and the pursuit of convergence in all spheres of activity. South-Eastern Mediterranean region has been for many years an object of interest of many researchers. Countries of Euro-Mediterranean partnership in the second half of the twentieth century have begun to acquire experience in independent economic development, and some of them managed in such a short period of time to achieve high results. In modern conditions sustainable economic prosperity implies a high level of innovation development, which is especially important for developing countries of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership. Economic and innovative development of the region is characterized by a significant degree of non-uniformity: some progress in Turkey, Israel, Algeria and Egypt in expanding the economic potential everywhere coexists with low growth rates and levels of economic development and innovation of Palestine, the Syrian Arab Republic and Tunisia. A significant impact on the economic and innovative development of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership is caused by political events. One of such eventsis the "Arab Spring" in 2011, which has covered the majority of countries in the region. The purpose of this study is to identify patterns and trends of economic and innovative development of the region, which in recent years has become a zone of strategic interests of the world's leaders. The historical background of the economic and innovative development of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership is presented in the article. The main indicators of economic and innovative development of the region, the basic trends and obstacles which are on the way of activation the integration of these countries into the global community are analysed. According to the results of the analysis it has been donethe grouping of levels of economic development and innovation that has allowed to allocate the leading countries, the countries with a moderate level of development and the outsiders. It has become possible to develop more effective strategies for cooperation and implementation of international aid programs.
